The florida Derby this weekend proved little in the way of derby contenders. Dialed In over came a speed bias, which was good, but lets be honest, he beat the longest shot on the board by a head.
Shackleford was a pleasant surprise, a big long striding chestnut colt, who could be this years First Dude. But we all know that colt is still eligible for a first level allowance, even though he's a millionaire.
The rest, Soldat, Stay Thirst, To Honor And Serve, just didn't seem to have it. Perhaps they'll rebound in the next few weeks and surprise at Churchill Downs. But the feeling here, is that the derby winner has yet to make his final preperations.
