Race 5: Preacher SLC- big closer trying 440 for the first time. 3/1

Hollywood Picks 5/11/07
Holly:
Race 1: Black Hills Goldie- Baze and O'niell are winning at nearly 20% as a combo and this filly looks tough against this field.
Race 2: Lucky Rylie- Really like this filly on paper and how many horses from Gilchrist's barn do you see a Hollywood Park, the guy can flat out train horses though. Love the 5-1 morning line.
Race 3: Bradford-Horse is dropping in class for Hines. Looks good on Paper from a pace perspective. 8-1 morning line.
Race 4: You Host- Coming off a bit of a freshening for Van Berg, look to mix it up earlier and try to hold off the others.
Race 5: Darkness Night- TONS of speed in this contest. Unless the 6 is a monster you winner is going to come from off the pace like my pick. Baze in the saddle has been a good thing lately.
Race 6: Complexity- don't like any of the firsters in here so I'm going with the seasoned runner. Should be on the lead turning for home.
Race 7: Running Bobcat's: should be enough speed in here to to burn the 5 and set it up for this late running mare.
Race 8: Reckoning Day- should get a good trip from off the pace. Wide open race but the favoite should get this one anyway.

Glad to see the old guy still gets mad respect from a new generation of fans.

Preakness News
I saw Vic Stauffer on TVG this morning. He seems to think that Street Sense looked like a tired racehorse after his Derby run and brings up a interesting question. Nafzger has never really gotten into this horse. Two races this year before the derby, his races last year were well spaced out. How is coming back in two weeks going to effect him?
He is after all a lightly built colt, not a tank like a curlin or Nobiz that could take a lot of training to peak. So is the quick turn around going to dull him?
Also apparently Larry Jones isn't going to work Hard Spun between now and the Preakness, perhaps that 57 and change work is catching up to him. I don't like to see a horse go that long without atleast an easy work to keep him humming along. Might be a play against.

Belmont Picks 5/11/07
Belmont:
Race 1: Dean's List-Horse should be in good position turning for home, and you get the added avantage of his couple mate, Itsnotthemoney.
Race 2: Bedside Story-Dutrow sends out this entry with Prado aboard. Should try to control the pace.
Race 3: Most Distinguished-Looks to have a big class advantage. Bet with both fists.
Race 4: Chinsegut Bay-Love the Honor Glide horses on the turf, and this one looks to have some talent. Gomez aboard also.
Race 5: No Lemon-Using the firster in a wide open race here. By Lemon Drop Kid-out of a storm cat mare;should love the green stuff. Getting plenty of respect in the M/L
Race 6: Sister Cat- Should beat these on paper.
Race 7: Smart Hallory- Class horse here, and should get to come off the pace with them burning up front.
Race 8: Ruffino- Lets see if we can get this one to take them all away around.
Race 9: Clearly a Thrill-Pretty weak field here, betting the jockey on this firster. Coa can own when he wants too.

"He went to Tanforan"
I do most of my wagering over the internet since I'm about two hours from any real race track. But I still like to go out to the local OTB and play with cash a couple times of month.
Usually I sit outside if the weather's good and smoke pall mall's with a couple of other guys that are there nearly everyday. Bob is a retired buisness man with to much money and a whole lot of time on his hands. He bets the pick6 at whatever SoCal track is running every race day and hits a couple times a year.
Bob usually shows up with this old pensioner Vinnie.
Vinnie moved to california from New York during the depression and still tells everyone he's from Flushing, even though he hasn't been there in forty years or so.
The three of us sit around in the sunshine, taking turns giving the TV's a slap to make the picture good and drinking way to many budlights for people who take their handicapping seriously.
So anyway one day Bob and I were trying to figure out a race Arlington. We were going back and forth, as usual not agreeing on anything. Vinnie was just sitting there staring off into space, and then I see him take a long drag of his cig and put it out in the ashtray and then he looks at me and says.
"I saw Seabiscuit run once."
"Oh yeah." I say
Vinnie shook his head at me. "Tanforan. Its not there anymore. Put up a god damn shopping mall."
"Still got the old statue of the biscuit out there though, I saw it once." says bob
With that the conversation was over.
So I go to the OTB today, I havent been in awhile and I take my seat at the usual table and light up a pall mall.
Bob shows up a little later. But Vinnie's not there.
"Where's the old guy." I ask him
"Went to Tanforan." he says, and lights up a cig of his own.
All the old players are disappearing I guess, its up to us young people to build their statues.

Race 2: Justanoldchick-Horse is trying this distance for the first time, good feeling with Huerta in the saddle.

Race 4: Fsixteen-this horse is the fastest, bet with both fists
Race 5: Allaway-the price is going to be very short, but he should win this race.
Race 6: Hard Heated Gal-horse has the experience over this feeled, I'll feel like I'm in good hands with Gomez and Huerta.
Race 7: Toby Tot-Consistent sort at this level, has good speed from the gate.
Race 8: Wave Rider-can't go against this family of runner's and Jones is always tough. Expect big things from this baby in the future.

Check out the story over at Bloodhorse. Is it just me? Or does Larry Jones sound a little sore about losing the Derby.

Hollwood Park
Race 1 :Genral Bueno-short price, but looks to be the best.
Race 2 :Shimby- Fits well in this group from a numbers and pace perspective, The Macnally/Solis combo is a powerful thing in SoCal.
Race 3 :Billie Boy- Ward should have this one ready 2nd time out of the box and Pedroza should have him on the lead. Bring the Heat already had a world record setting baby at Keeneland with the same connections.
Race 4 :River Lane- M.Baze has been on fire thus far at Holly park, look for him to sit just off the pace in this one and explode from the out side.
Race 5 :Forseti's Question- going for a bomb here, the drop in class should help this one and the second time lasix is a plus.
Race 6 :Balistic Heat-love these Unusaul Heats on the grass. Mike Smith is back in SoCal and tearing up the turf course. This horse should get a good trip from the inside.
Race 7 :Double Major- should be on the lead by herself in hear, just needs to go get the money.
Race 8 :I'm a shoe in- looks like this one might control the lead from the outside in a paceless race. Gets the nod by default.
